Dancing Fool

Dancing Fool

A Poem by James

Dress in a swirl  I'll give you a twirl
Swing you round then back to the ground
then back again with a count,
1, 2, 3
step
1, 2, 3
step
dip
twirl
step... keeping time
with the caller's rhyme.
Heels tapping
and old men slapping
their knee's to the rhythm of a fiddlers beat.
I'm not much of a dancer
more of a tip-toeing prancer
But I love to move
when I feel the groove.
No rhythm,
no grace
but I'm quick with the pace.
My steps may be false,
but I do love the waltz.
Bet you never knew
that I was a dancing fool.
A good ol' boy who loves a girl
and wants nothing more
than to give her a whirl;
to have her alone on a big dance floor
and dance all night till her feet are sore...
Just so I can take her home and rub them.

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This is an awesome piece of rhythmic & lyrical wonder! I love that you bring in all kinds of dance moves & your rhyming is so perfect, kinda like an old-fashioned version of rap, the way your word crafting conveys a distinct beat, but with a more sincere & gentle & nostalgic message, instead of the usual harsh intensity of rap lyrics. This is definitely a home run! Fun to read & imagine!

Glad you liked this. I wish I could dance, but it's not a pretty site when I try, although I use to.. read more

Love the last line !!! Music does quicken the pulse..and make the feet step lively.

This is fun, and reminds the reader of Joyful times..

I did enjoy !

I'm glad you liked it, but really, I'm the worst dancing partner ever.

Most men don't dance so you're already better than most straight away...
love the ending....and i am a dancing fool, always was...so can relate to this much...not one for specific steps i always just moved to the music and let it take me where it would...much like writing this is...we start moving to the music of the words, and the beat of the poem finds itself.

Sometimes I wish I could dance, I'm sure my wife does. Thank you for reading.
The pace and style are fitting of a dance. I like the narrator's clunky motions.
