Chicken Fried

Chicken Fried

A Poem by James
"

A Dumb Little Song. I back it up with clawhammer banjo Standard Bum-Ditty with some drop thumb. I played it as is with the intro

"
How about a little love song...
Like, there's not enough of them out there already...

Ok, here goes,

It was down in a border town in sweet Caroline
That I got my first taste of vinegar sauce and muscadine wine.
It was sweet and it was sour and wanted to eat more
and I ate and ate till I hit the floor.

Bum, Bum, Bum Bum ( slow banjo descending)

I woke up in the morning on some old back porch swing
with a hankering for banjo and barbecued chicken-wings.

(Chorus)
Barbecue pork and southern-fried food
Mashed potatoes with gravy and large dipping spoon
I don't want to go to the movies or to some old musical play,
I want some dry rub on brisket on a large paper tray.

(Bridge)
Bum-ditty, Bum-ditty Bum-ditty, bum bum
Bum ditty, ditty-ditty, Bum-ditty, bum bum (pause)
Bum

Now, I'm wearing bib overalls and a greasy ball cap
I drive an old pick-up tuck and I don't take no crap
I'm drink Budweiser from a can and I chew beachnut chaw
I love to shoot guns and my favorite word is now y'all.

Bum-ditty, bum-ditty, bum-ditty, bum bum, ditty-bum (pause)

On Saturday night when I need a fix My body gets sweaty
and I start to twitch I know what I need boys
I just got to find  a little road side cafe (pause) with a pig on the sign

(Pause) (strum)
(Chorus)

Barbecue sauce  and southern-fried food
Mashed potatoes with gravy and large dipping spoon
I don't want to go to the movies or to some old musical play,
I want some dry rub on brisket on a large paper tray.

Now when the eat'ns all over and my foods on my chin
I wipe it with my sleeve and I sit back and grin
My belly's too full to move from my chair
but there's customers waiting and I'm taking up air.
So they help me from the table and carry me outside
put me in my truck, with a teary-eyed goodbye

Barbecue sauce and southern-fried food
Mashed potatoes with gravy and large dipping spoon
I don't want to go to the movies or to some  old musical play,
I want some dry rub on brisket on a large paper tray.
