A Father To His Son

A Father To His Son

A Poem by James Whitefall
"

A fathers last words.

"

You can’t go!

A boy sits upon his father’s lap,

And the sun sets behind them,

Shining through the glass window.

There will come a day son,

Life demands an end,

And they say the end is really just a new beginning,

For someone.

Watery eyes, red tear-stained cheeks,

As sure as the world is spinning,

I will always love you and please don’t forget,

Never forget.

You’re the man of the house now,

You must take care of your mother,

And sister, and of course your baby brother,

Because you are the oldest.

No one will know,

For the truth is in the sacrifice,

Family's the most important they say,

Hope to live long enough to see it.

The machines beep away,

And the many wires pretend to tell a story,

But it can only tell one,

The flat line on a screen.

This is one of the best poems I have ever read because of the content, which is strong and thought provoking.
For the truth is in sacrifice--this line resonated with my heartbeats for few moments, I appreciate your imagination here because you summed up the whole definition of sacrifice in a word. This is a wow factor in your poem. It reminds me of my favorite movie "THE PRESTIGE", in which the whole movie revolves around Sacrifice of magicians. Although your concept of sacrifice is a bit different but I liked it.

Secondly, the way you depicted the whole scene is very beautiful, you placed every line in a very specific order which adds beauty to the poem and keeps the reader intrigued about what's going to happen next.
The poem is very philosophical and shows the love of a father for its family and his faith in his children.
Ending of the poem is heartrending, a bit slow and shows your amazing writing skills.
Well done, I enjoyed your poem very much.
