Sinking Ship

Sinking Ship

A Poem by James

I recall how we set sail
emotions unfurled, hearts laid bare
with no thoughts of wearing a veil
or of us growing stale
of this pheromonal warfare

But now we're drifting apart
ocean swells widening the rift
I should have known it would be hard
to mend a broken heart
while diving off a sinking ship

Now i'm drowning
in this sea of despair
trying to break the surface for air
I'm floundering
in a state of disrepair
torn between apathy and care

I will survive on my own
make for myself a new home
among creatures of the deep
who knows what I will become
next time we meet
you may not recognize me
lost as i'll be
as a dweller of the sea
