The Dark Corridor

The Dark Corridor

A Poem by Jamie Starlight
"

I wrote this about half a year ago for a state poetry contest, I got first place in the junior Division.

"

The shadows waltzed around

In the dreary dim glow

They dance around

My lone soul like they are moths

And I am a glowing lantern

I grasp my books to my beating heart as I

Hurry on through this hallway of

Horrors

The faster I tread the longer

The passage becomes

I glance back to see them dispersing

Along the walls and corners

I stop and stare into the darkness

Until I feel it consuming my

Every emotion

I run full force towards the door as

I imagine their dark forms

Advancing forward at a brisk

Pace

I drop my novels and take hold

Of the door knob as if it was a

Lover’s hand

At last I am out of the dreadful

Corridor and into

The reassuring light

Of a brilliant day
