Boots in the Tunnel

Boots in the Tunnel

A Poem by Jamie Starlight

Click clackity click resounds through the tunnel

Once of so much life, of so much meaning

Before the world halted in its steps.

The lights still glinted, just a sign of the past.

Once they blurred by two sets of young eyes.

Now the flicker to a lanky form limping through

The sea-side town now a wasteland.

One dweller still remains

Roaming the tunnel on clickity clackity boots.

Once a place of thrill

Turned to sad sentiments

Of before

 The deadline of earths stability.

Once the two eyes saw the path as

One of adventure

Now it’s just the way to an empty

Abandoned home.

Seeing your companions die one by one

Can take a toll on two eyes.

Seeing no living bodies in days

Can drive two eyes to tears.

Sometimes your boots can trick you

Was that someone else?

Are they still alive?

When the tunnel ends

Gray sky stretches out

Above an abandoned highway

The saddest sight to see.

Why walk there when you know

You buried them a year ago.
