Insomnia

Insomnia

A Poem by JanMarie

awake, awake...
half past midnight
and i'm awake,
the only human conscious
at this inhuman hour of unconsciousness.
when i was young,
this was the "witching hour" --
the hour when toys came alive
to fight the under-the-bed goblins,
and all good children stayed out of the battle
by clinging to sleep --
at all costs --
sleep, sleep...
the goblins are back,
but the toys are gone,
and the sleep will not come.
awake, awake...
quarter to one and the battle has just begun.

ah, the "witching hour" one of my favorite times of being (iffen i aint gotz to work the next morning). i love the toy imagery and the counting of passing time. almost everyone can relate to this i am sure for we all have ....goblins...who come back-- especially when we are feeling defenseless and protector-less. this is one of my favorites.

I really liked this a lot. It is very descriptive and, to one who knows the feeling well, it is exactly like lying awake in the middle of the night. I especially liked the imagery of the toys.
