Painted Red Lips

Painted Red Lips

A Poem by Kat
"

Even though I have friends I used to feel as invisible as I did in high school. Then I decided I wanted to be seen.

"
Staring at the mirror
Her reflection staring back
Painted red lips aren't enough
Just another day of feeling lost

Standing in the closet
Staring at the hanging assortment in front of her
Seeing nothing eye catching
Just another day of being plain

Hallways packed with bodies
Never felt so empty before
She doesn't stop and chat
Just another day of being alone

The day inches by
Painted red lips turned down in a frown
All she wants is to be noticed
Just another day of not being seen

Home at last
Sitting in front of her mirror
Tired of being invisible
The day things finally changed

Another morning in front of the mirror
With a different girl staring back
A hidden determination to stand out
Finally a day of effort

An odd smile on her painted red lips
She strides purposefully to the closet
Knowing exactly what will catch an eye or two
Finally a day of confidence

Hushed whispers in the halls
Lingering gazes follow her proud stride
Heart stopping smile on those painted red lips
Finally she's seen
