Microexpressions of Another

Microexpressions of Another

A Poem by Jared Orlando

It is in the incompleteness of the quiet
Of a distant solitary branch falling
Ever so lightly on a single bed of snow
As everything pitters or patters

A creak under the feet of another
Is shrouded in the ambience of
Cicadas while tiny bouts of
Wind circle in place

I watch the shadows of the flames
Flicker and animate
And while you are burning I reach
Stumbling as my breath retreats

It is in the still when you return
As the microexpression of another
And in your retreat you leave
The air smoldering and cold
