Smaug (A Spenserian Stanza)

Smaug (A Spenserian Stanza)

A Poem by Jason van Dongen
"

This follows the form of a Spenserian Stanza.

"
As mountains cast their shade upon a plain,
So does the gold-winged wyvern mask the light,
Upon Lonely Mountain's coarse terrain,
As he passes o'er the dwarves in flight.
Smaug smells their fear and shudders with delight,
He circles high and then he plummets back,
He casts his fire and sets the ground alight,
His rapture rising as the scene turns black,
Lo, there is naught that can be done when Smaug attacks.
