Nearwaterwoman

Nearwaterwoman

A Story by Jaweena...Eileen Quintana

I am from the Nearwater Clan,
Born for the Edgewater Clan,
My maternal grandparent is from the Folded Arms Clan
My paternal grandparent is from the Towering House Clan
This is how I am a Dine' woman.
I introduce myself in this way to honor the people that I come from. Each one of these powerful clans have already distinguished themselves by unique characteristics, talents, family values and natural abilities. Some Clans well-known as great leaders, teachers, artists, athletes, mediators, farmers, weavers, potters, herbalists and philosophers to name but a few. Some have carried the responsibility of healing our communities as Medicine Men and Women for centuries.
Each member of the tribe bringing their own gift, talent, contribution to the universe.

What will I bring to my people?

Each of us have a purpose. I like the history and story of a great heritage and belief in the story. I believe in the way of nature and it's cures. I study for many years the plants. I was lucky and met kind Medicine men who allow me to learn a little. I like the last line. It is a important question. We must be strong and wise for the family. A excellent poem.

This is a beautiful statement it says i know who i am and im damn proud to be this person. There's also a sense of unity at work here all the tribes born from each other and different people in your family being apart of different clans its very intriguing.

You know who you are. I believe you help the young ones to know who they are. This is a beautiful tribute. Aheehee, Shi'Kis
