This Smoking Wreck

This Smoking Wreck

A Poem by JayJayBlue
"

About being drunk and deciding to make a choice based on instinct, trying to reconnect with someone you used to love

"
Another beer-hazed Saturday night
And I'm in the shade between the lights
Of this packed out, thumping club
And I'm looking for a girl to meet
A new path and place to go

I'm trying to make a connection
But I'm prone to rejection
And they're all the same as before
Yet another shameful defeat
And I'm left feeling morose

I remember the girl that I loved before
And I'm ashamed to think I let her go
The best I ever had
And maybe she's still around
In this smoking wreck of a town

And I'm still fucked up like before

I call her up and tell her I'm sorry
And I need to see to her once again
Maybe it's cause I'm drunk
Or maybe it's just true love
Who knows till I show up drunk?

I'm wondering if I can stay the night
But a moment can't make things right
All of my mistakes laid unfurled
I destroyed the legacy of a girl
And I'm drunk and in bitter regret

I remember the girl that I loved before
And I'm ashamed to think I let her go
The best I ever had
And maybe she's still around
In this smoking wreck of a town
