Repudiate

Repudiate

A Poem by Jessica DuBose

heavy
disheartened
my chest constricts
as my eyes try not to well up
thud...thud....thud
my heartbeat sounds
as though it can't trudge on
I gasp for air
realizing I forgot to breathe
trying not to sound disappointed
as I quickly get away
to crawl deep within myself
and hide for fear that it will catch up
if I hide in a hole
maybe then it won't find me
maybe then I can escape
the wretched grasp,
the grip of rejection
