Tara is lying about her assault

The new rapist is a woman.
Her penetrating eyes glimmer and laugh
as she takes notes on my nightmares.

In each dream
I struggle again against
rough hands,
sinewy muscles,
and his thin, demon smile.

She has no feeling
for my black and blue past
and no injury of her own,
but as she continues with her
libelous assault,

her quest to inflict
retribution
upon an innocent man,

I find myself face down
again begging through tears
for it to stop.

Retributive justice is a theory that purports the punishment should fit the crime and is a morally acceptable response, regardless of whether the retribution causes any tangible benefits. This may be so when dealing with the guilty, but applied to an innocent individual can have traumatic effects.

False allegations are not uncommon when dealing in a scenario such as metaphorically outlined in your poetical and poignantly written composition.

When dishing out the dirt, everyone involved gets a hurtful of dust.
