To Fly or To Fall

To Fly or To Fall

A Poem by Jennifer K

To Fly or To Fall

Standing before me
On the edge of a cliff
Two different choices
My mind sent adrift

Breathing deep in
Letting air from my mouth
Haunting from within
Is what this is about

Hope bubbles up
Coming along with fear
Looking down at the ground
The end seems so near

The possibilities seem endless
Looking up at the sky
Giving me some hope
That when I jump I will fly

The gravel beneath my toes
Crunches with sound
Yet I am not alarmed
There is no one around

The forest is so quiet
My mind is so loud
The differences adamant
Just like stagnant clouds

A light in the distance
Goes out with my ambition
My mind is reminded
I came here on a mission

I spread out my wings
But I am braced for the fall
I can only have one
I can't have it all

Standing before me
On the edge of a cliff
I jump to fly free
But I live full of what ifs
