Maybe This Time

Maybe This Time

A Poem by JessicaGadziala

maybe he will taste like
hope-
a risk worth taking
excitement and new chances
to not make the same old mistakes.
maybe he will grasp me
with enough pressure to
assure me he will hold my hand
without holding me back
an anchor who will give me
just enough slack
though not enough to hang myself
like I have a tendency to do.
maybe he will be
a safe place to land-
a warm chest to sleep on
or lay awake next to
listening to his breathing
like a lullaby when my
insomnia wont let me rest.
maybe he will feel like
comfort and security
two things men have never
afforded me
and maybe, just maybe
this time
maybe this time
it will be different.

A soulful and compelling elaboration on a stark moment of hope. Well done, dear poet.

Past disappointments can put trepidation in our minds so easily. Not knowing for sure what's ahead can leave us with pessimism or optimism. I hear your heart wondering and that's normal. We want to be happy.
