I'm Not Playing

I'm Not Playing

A Poem by J.R. Turner

Life is a game, you once said to me

When you want to stop playing, your simply just leave

These words have stuck with me, since that one lonely night

When you told me this tale, and I laughed out in spite

I wondered right then if you knew the words you were saying

Life's not a game and if so I'm done playing

You think you are a king, so tall and fair

You welcome confrontation of those who will dare

You have strong beliefs and opinions within

But when it comes to you daughter, no one stands to win

I have known you for years now and I still hide in fear

all of the things I know you won't hear

You claim I can tell you anything at all

But when I really need you, you cast away my call
