he said, he asked, and I am -

he said, he asked, and I am -

A Poem by jesswrecks

I  am not my mother's daughter,
nor my father's spitfire of a child.
I am not my sister's keeper,
nor my nephew's greatest aunt.

I am barefoot, two cents short
and pregnant, my head rests
on my best friends couch,
not homeless, but damn near

close and that sweet sing-song
soothing voice of his said,

I am my mother's worst nightmare,
and my father's biggest regret.
I am my sister's enemy,
and my nephew's second best.

I am barefoot, two cents short
and pregnant, my head rests
on my best friends couch,
not homeless, but damn near
close and that sweet sing-song
soothing voice of his said,

I am no wife, nor cook
             I am the mistress,
he asked for an abortion,
I asked for two cents,
and a heart for a home.

he asked for an abortion,
he said I would ruin his
wife, and family, he said -
and then he walked away.

I am barefoot, two cents short
and pregnant, my head rests
on my best friends couch,
and she says I'll make a damn
near good mother, I can sing too.
