thoughts on a february moon

thoughts on a february moon

A Poem by J

I wait.

          Patiently.

as his mind sorts out the thoughts

                    [that silently beg the words]

that won’t come

I know this.  I can do this

                   [as my heart squeezes

and tears subjugate my own small voice]

But I know.  I Know

he mustn’t realize the acquaintance in my eyes ~

                   Still I know.

And I have saved every one of his voicemails

Because there is coming a time

when all I will have are his stuttering words telling me

                   “I love you, daughter.”

that slow greying, shadowing of the mind is one of the most terrifying realities that we must ever deal with, made a thousand times worse when it touches that close...you soften the terror but not the pain

your exquisite understanding feels like a warm fire in a snow storm -- thank you, my friend.
Has a moon ever shined so bright, greeting the still night with memories past, and memories of the future? We are present and past and future, in the heart of our loved ones. Comes a time, you will reply in kind.
