Old Man

Old Man

A Poem by J Kriger

Aging out of relevance

Depreciating in youth

Getting old

Outstretched fingers towards a wasted, long gone ignorance

With only cyanide sweet nostalgia staining lips

Far too easy to lick

Despite the cynicism that shines on the surface, I read wisdom in this poem. There's a humility, too that comes with age, realizing we know less than we believed in our younger years. Still, the nostalgia can take us to dark places, where reflecting on the past is ill-advised. This is what I, at 51 years old, read in this one.
