I'm Not Ready

I'm Not Ready

A Poem by Joel Marshall
"

For so long I was used to giving my body away to any man who wanted it. I hoped that by doing so, he would love me in return. Time after time, they only wanted one thing. When I finally came to the one man who would love me for me, all I knew how to do wa

"

I’m not ready to love you
the way you want to love.
Not ready to see all the things
you have to offer.
I’m not ready to feel life’s passions
all swirled into one person.
Taken into extreme ecstasy.

Yes, your lips are of wine.
Your voice so hypnotic.
Your touch quivers my body.
But I’m just not quite ready.

Please understand

that with a helping hand
I’ll become your only man.
Don't be like the others
who up and ran.
I'm doing my best
to keep you interested,
I’ll do all that I can.
If that’s not good enough
then alone you’ll stand.

Not sure what I’m feeling is true.
Just a little scared and yes I’m so into you.
Can’t we wait, just for a while.
Love is about patience
So listen to what I have to say,

If that night should come
I’ll make sure, you’ll be the
one to persuade.
Because at that moment
there will be no other way.

Spoon into my body
and lay into love’s unsung promises
of faith and temptation for you.
Monogamy.
Because tonight,
I’m not ready.
