Bowl of Green With Ant

Bowl of Green With Ant

A Poem by John Anderson

Brought up suddenly
by this city panorama--
bowl of green with ant
cars scrabbling silently
among lazy-waving maple trees--
I will soon see
the purple curtain of twilight
drop thoughts like a narcotic
on this affluent hill, superior
with its cold citizens and closed
doors. I descend the hill,
recognize pain
in the gaits and glances of those
I pass, as they rush
to the end of their clean street
neatly tapered as a coffin.

Wonderful visuals, like a painting etched with words... well done

This is a brilliantly written piece with lots of depth of complexity.

this has that nice quality i like to poetry when the thoughts and ideas create excellent images that manage to capture the imagination. Truly excellent work. I especially liked the idea of the 'lazy-waving maple trees' and the idea of the 'clean street' and the 'neatly tapered as a coffin' line. fantastic.

"their clean street neatly tapered as a coffin"
damn good stuff, those lines..
yes, cold citizens and locked doors, and here i am "the fool on the hill" alone with my thoughts.

nicely done, John.

Metaphorically you are a giant and your narrative is like no other.

Ridiculously good and oozing with the melancholy of the mundane....hamsters on a wheel

interesting!

It hides many feeling through great imagery making this piece really profound. A good way to describe our pain is in creative words. Very nice piece my friend.
