Flag Of Ukraine

Flag Of Ukraine

A Poem by John

Flag of Ukraine
Blue and cornfield yellow
Flapping with the slap of the wind
Across plains as flat as Kansas.
These names mean nothing:
A yellow river drains into a black sea;
A red sea seeks out a distant ocean.
We have made landfall in the crime of a country,
Wondering where else, how else, we can survive,
Forgetting we were ever taken by surprise,
Surprised by the trees' sudden green and the whiteness
Of the white stork.

This is what poetry should do. You told a story and you educated the reader. Ukraine wheat, was worth a war for. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.
