I'm from the future.

I'm from the future.

A Story by James A Sterling II

As I opened the doors of the saloon the words of many began to encompass my mind. It was as if I  just walked into the most illiterate place in America. I walked briskly up to the bar and sat down. The only thing I could smell was the scent of smoke, and beer. I began to contemplate why I was here, at that moment the man to my right looks right at me.

“ You aren't from around here are ya?”

I reply “ No, but how can you tell?”

The man takes a puff from his cigar. “You seem like the smart type, unlike us fools.”

This man seems suspicious, if I am smart then what is he?

I whisper silently to him. “ Who are you?”

He looks right into my eyes. “I am… you…”

“What do you mean?” I replied.

“I am you.” he whispered once more.

I begin to sweat. In my mind I begin to ask myself, is he mad?

Is he just playing some kind of trick on me?

He has to be mentally ill.

Then he puts his arm around my head, if only to conceal are conversation.

“Listen, believe me or not, I am here to help you.”

“I came from the future, to save you.”

“Save me? From what?”

He points over to the lady sitting in the corner.

“Yes, you see that lady.”

Sweating profusely I turn to the lady.

She waves at me. I wave back.

“What about her?”

“She looks innocent, but she turns you into me.” he laughs.
