Visible

Visible

A Poem by Layla J Omorose

Do you hear her…?

Can you see her?

Can you hear her call out to you?

Do you hear the pain in her voice when she speaks...? She doesn’t have much of a voice left.

She needs you to listen to her. To hear her.

She is begging and pleading…it’s in her voice.

She’s lost and needs someone to hear her…to find her.

Hear her when she speaks her soft words.

Listen and hear the longing in her voice.

She wants you…can you hear it?

Listen to her…hear her heart.

Your eyes are open but do you see him?

Can you see him?

He’s alone in the world.

No mother. No father. No family.

Don’t just look at him…see him.

See the way he is treated.

He is scared.

The world has cast him out. Deemed him unworthy.

Can you see him? He’s reaching out.

So small, so frail, he’s reaching out to you…

See his hunger while you eat.

Look at him with your eyes and take him in.

Can you feel their pain? Would you care?

Feel his hunger pains.

Feel starvation as it grabs him…

Care enough to feed him.

Feel her fear as it covers her body.

Feel it as it paralyzes her.

She can’t move.

Feel the coldness on her bones. It chills her all the way to her soul.

She frightened and alone…

Feel it as the darkness takes her over.

Care enough to find her. Care enough to warm her cold body.

Chase away their bad dreams. Chase away the darkness and give them light.

Care enough to save them.

They’re dying…it stalks behind them. Forever on their heels, they’re hurting.

Feel the breaking of their bones

Their skin being ripped apart

They are being tortured.

Take their pain as if it was your own.

The burning of their flesh

The cold stinging of their chains

Care enough to heal their broken bones.

Repair their torn flesh, stitch it back together

Break their chains and bring them home…

Hear her, see him...feel them.

They are there. Visible.

They are hidden in the shadows

They are there scared and alone

Don’t walk past them…

Hear her, See him...feel them.

Wow, such a poignant peom. Sometimes we pass by these people without a second glance when all we need to do is help. Awesome piece.

The repetition and the questions create a very profound impact.
I like the message, the theme, the very essence of this poem.
The content, the description, is all great.
A very well written poem.

I find this poem to be emotional, and painful. The reader can really picture all the events taking place.
