Dance

Dance

A Poem by JuliaMancini
"

Happy Valentine's Day

"

I sat on the side of the dance

And watched people not dance.

I saw them jump

And violate each other from behind

To the noise some call music.

I have never seen dance until I met you.

You sat on the side of the dance,

Tapping your foot to your own rhythm.

We always sat near each other,

But always watched the dance,

Never to speak to each other.

One day, you stood up,

and held out your hand for me.

Nervous, I lightly placed my hand on yours.

You led us to our enchanted meadow,

Away from the strobe lights and noise.

Nature played our beautiful melody

and lit our dance floor.

You pulled me close,

I could feel your butterflies in your rapid pulse,

Although you tried to mask it.

I was nervous, but I trusted you.

I placed my other hand behind your shoulder blade,

and followed your lead.

We danced.

Slow with trepidation, at first,

But warmed up to a natural flow.

Our breathing became one,

Our hearts became one,

We were one person.

We have similar dreams and goals,

Similar personalities

Life is our dance,

And I will always trust you in it
