Who I Am

Who I Am

A Poem by Anna

Who I Am

I am a candle.

My inner core is sturdy and strong with a hard, stiff wick

But I am also soft and compassionate like my melting puddles of wax

I become passionate with my work, a mighty flame above a simple wax carving

I am blazing, blazing.

With me, you think of serenity and contentment

I am the comforter, the one to provide ease to my loved ones worries

I’m used in emergencies, and relied on during storms

The light bulb is green with envy of my superior ability to shine

The sun falls dead, day after day, when he finally resigns his duties to me

I am the candle in the cupboard, waiting for my chance to burn bright, and fill the darkness with light

I am waiting, waiting.

I shine my light to every corner, and eliminate all shadows, guarding from evil’s lurking attempts

I will blaze strong and brilliant, until my final wick is down to its last inch.

I am melting, melting.

I am a candle.

i think it is a really wonderful poem and i think you are a great poet since you have written such a wonderful poem in such a nice way. i like how you made a comparison between you as a person who gives without asking for return and the candle which gets burnt to light for others...

I think it's great! In fact, I'm mad at you because I want this on my page and to say it's by me. So... true! I am also a candle. Any human could be easily compared to a candle! What a great thought.
