Words and Lights

Words and Lights

A Poem by Justin Rink

Why is it now that words fail?
That the voices are cast aside from this world
Leaving only a trace of life
Across a plain of madness

It is with uplifting words that I can find peace?
Using them as weapon and shield
I can prosper for a short period
Before being dragged unwilling into the void

I used to dream
Beautiful dreams in the nights
Only a shred of them remain
I can’t keep my eyes closed anymore

The light that was guiding me was false
I was tricked by the golden strands
I fear I may have followed them too far
That I'm shackled to their deceit

However, I'm not doomed yet
For in the distance there are more lights
Along with new words and voices
All to be seen and heard
