Nights Voyage

The last petals drift out ever west, their

brilliance lost to mortal eyes once more.

Nights cloak descends, embracing the world

With alluring darkness, blinding eyes and

Muddling feet: Wanderers stumble.

Caliginous sky, will-'o-the-wisps

Twinkling merrily, misdirection

Abounds for the beachcomber.

Her wandering truly untillered.

Childlike laughter tinkles down from above.

Suffocating dark surrounds, drowns.

The shore absent to her aimless feet

The rough reassurance forgotten

replaced by the cruel cold grip of infinity

Heaven-turned eyes, seeking guidance anew.

Look not to the stars, for fickle they shine,

Twinkling: exposing insincerity.

Look to the moon, the frosted moon, an orb

ever true: though its separation be

great, tides acquiesce to its guiding pull.

Tide-routed, the surf retreats, shore giving

way to guided feet once more. Moon-set

Compass directing her tiller ever

West, the explorer sets out to conquer

the horizon at the oceans end.

The moon glows fiercely in the velvet sky,

Illuminating the paths for those who seek.
