What Can You Do When All You See is the Red Light

What Can You Do When All You See is the Red Light

A Poem by K Ambing

In this liminal space where nothing lasts,

I embalm your fleeting touch & wear them

around my neck. Here is the catch: neither

of us is worth the wait. Even with your

painted bitten nails tapping my thigh or

my sigh as you walk away after saying

goodbye, there are still so much more we

could ask. How selfish do you need me

to be? My foot hits the brake; you unbuckle

the seat belt. I’d imagined it like the whole

world crumbling before my eyes, a mighty

fist from above crashing this car, but the

only sound I hear is a single timid click

As you close the door behind you, the seat

belt retracted back to its place as if it was

never stretched just to hold you tight.
