This Ache

Have you ever loved someone so much, that to be apart from them causes physical pain?

What is this emotion?

So foreign to my soul

It constricts my breath,

And twists my gut,

Making it hard to breathe

 

This emotion chafes at my spirit,

Makes my heart writhe in agony,

My skin burn for the touch

Your touch

Aching for your soothing embrace

 

I’ve never known this ache,

This pain is new to me

It leaves me drained

Willing away

The deluge of tears

That threatens with such menace

So often

 

This yearning,

This need,

It will not go away

In a way,

I don’t want it to

 

It keeps you in my mind

Your warm, calming scent,

Your expressive eyes,

The gentleness of your touch

The easiness of your laughter

 

These are the things I miss,

These are the things,

That makes me wake in the night,

Reaching for you

 

These things remind me

Of what I have

Just out of my reach

This ache,

This anguish that won’t go away,

It just reminds me

Of how much I miss you,

Of how much I need you

 

Of how much I love you
