Those were the days

Those were the days

A Poem by K_Elizabeth

Those were the days.

Matched by name. A chance installation of one with the other.

In English we met. Bonded over shared adoration from our dancing Neighbour.

Life became light. Families merged as we holidayed and laughed.

Boyfriends were for fun, but ours was love.

At least it was for me. As we rode on boats belting KISS and shaved each others knees.

The happiest times. My most exciting friend.

Those were the days.

Then one. I don’t know, she suffered. The other always blamed herself.

What if I had been a better friend?

She closed her out. Could this have been salvaged if not for one meaningless kiss?

Treasured memories live on despite the years. And on birthdays we still hope for a call.

If only life had a hot tub and we could go back to start again.

To be our unmatched duo.

To fall in friendship all over again.

Could I change things? Or do all good things really have to end?

What if this semblance of a love letter could be enough and we could melt into yesterday my friend?
