Dreams

[ A fantasy book that stages the main character, Kairo, in a realm he believes is unescapable. He struggles to find his way out, as he meets friends along the way to help him leave. ]

PAGE 1:

I sat up quickly, coughing out sand from my mouth. “Gross..” Kairo mumbled. If only I hadn’t grabbed that necklace, he thought, gripping the crystal-like necklace in his hand. I stared blankly at the island's dry sands, I didn’t know where I was. I didn’t even get a moment to understand my surroundings, as I was flung back by some type of wind. I couldn’t even blink, as I peeked my head out of the pile of sand I landed in. I stumbled to my feet as it was hard to stand, just trying to see who or what threw me. It was strange, it was a phoenix, not any phoenix, the phoenix was as big as a lion, a shimmery pattern similar to glitter, and a deep blue on its feathers. The phoenix’s wings stretched out, which showed a bright golden color. My eyes narrowed at the sight of the bird, or rather, phoenix? The phoenix then spoke, “ I have seen you here, Kairo.” the phoenix spoke in a soft tone. I was cautious, though confused. “I apologize for the inconvenience, though I’ve never seen a human enter these lands.” The phoenix tilted her head slightly. “Was throwing me into a pile of sand your defense mechanism?” Kairo asked, with a sarcastic tone. “It was merely just my landing, I apologize.” The phoenix chuckled.. “Uh huh,  who are you anyways?” Kairo asked, in a suspicious tone. “I am Vyuri, the phoenix of light, I seek those who get trapped in the Everealm. I may know a way for an exit.” Vyuri’s last words seemed to catch Kairo’s attention, as he looked the phoenix dead in the eyes, “How do I know I can trust you?” He asked cautiously.” I guess you’ll have to find out.” she smiled, and started to walk away a bit, then stopped. 

 PAGE 2:

 Vyuri leaned down as she nudged her head for him to get on, “get on.” “what?” Kairo said curiously. “ you can’t walk the entire time, you know that, right?” “magic is unstable here, only protectors, such as I, gain special access to magic.  Vyuri stretched out her wings and used it to wrap around kairo’s body, lifting him up onto her back. Vyuri started running at high speeds “w-wait! I don’t know how to do this!” yelled Kairo. As Kairo dug his head into her feathers trying not to look downwards AS HE FELT HIS FEET COMING OFF OF THE GROUND. “look!” said Vyuri. “I don’t think I want to!” said Kairo. “trust me, just look.” Vyuri said reassuringly. Kairo slowly lifted his head up, as his eyes slowly blinked, he could see the different area than before. He suddenly felt cold, colder than normal, below freezing. “w-what is this place..?” he said shivering. “ the frozen archives, the ice district.”vyuri said with a stern, but concerned tone. Kairo could tell by her words, leaving this place wouldn’t be easy.
