House of Cards

House of Cards

A Poem by Kala Benfield

I have no other like you.
To say the least your heart
is true.
My Sweetheart.
Your perfections tear
others apart.
Like violin strings
beating to find their charm.
Tell myself I couldn't care less,
when I ask when I could put this
to rest.
You thought you had me
in a way you did.
I realized it.
I have to confess.
Your world
my world.
is a test.
Make my satisfaction the top
of this list.
I can do better.
Shuffle the cards of your game.
I won't soothe your pain.
I hope it paralyzes.
I'll take your favorite person
you idolize,
& burn them to flames.
Deal your cards
Little did you know
I had the Ace.
Your queens and kings
are the ones to blame.
You have to rule.
Its the luck of the draw.
But you cheated
& that was brutal.
I'll play your game,
but I'm felling any foe
in my gaze.

Wow, that seemed to escalate quickly! Not where I thought that poem was going, and THAT'S what I like about it.
