Chapter 5: Mountain of Death.

The Creatures of White's Cry!

“DAMN IT KWASI WAKE UP!!!!” The loud, screeching suggested that it was Jade.

“Man you’re annoying,” I muttered. I whipped my eyes and glared at the annoyed girl that stood before my bed.

“I’M ANNOYING!? NO YOU’RE ANNOYING! YOU’RE THE ONE WHO SAID THAT WE SHOULD GO TO THE RUINS TODAY BUT YOU REFUSE TO GET UP!!!” Jade was obviously pissed off and be just looking at her and going back to sleep didn’t help. She grabbed my sheets and propelled me out of the bed. As I flew in the air she kicked my right in the gut. And needless to say I was awake now.

“Hurry the heck up! We’ll be waiting in the square,” She slammed the door as she left my room. I took this as a sign that it was morning.

“Well this day is getting off to an amazing start,” I said to myself sarcastically.

I quickly prepared myself and headed out the door. I looked around the lobby for the others.

“Oh man...where did that idiot say we should meet?” I scratched my head as I looked for someone who could help me.

“They said to meet at the square.” The sudden voice made my jumped. I turned around and to my surprise it was Patience.

“Oh hey Patience,” I greeted. It didn’t take me to realize I who I was talking to. In less than four seconds I started shaking like a Chihuahua in winter. “So why aren’t you with others? Not like I’m not happy to see you here! I mean I’m glad, ecstatic even! But not in like that way! But you know I’m still happy but, but, but...” I stood there awkwardly looking at her confused expression.

Patience smiled and greeted me “Morn’.”

I smiled back. “Good Morning.”

We walked out of the hotel and headed to the square.

“I didn’t go with the others cause I said that someone should wait for you case you got lost,” Patience explained, she gave a very warming smile and hummed as we walked out of the hotel.

I was extremely nervous. It’s rare for me and Patience to be alone together. It’s even more rare for her to be humming around be. She only hums when she is really happy. I should know since I stalked her for awhile (don’t judge me!). For the longest time I been trying to get some alone time with Patience to just talk and be closer with her, but we always hang out as a group...always. I knew this was the perfect chance to talk to her but my mouth refused to move. Anything that came from my mouth sounded like a mute. I kept trying to say something; I ran various simulations in my head on how to deal with the situation. But every one of them ended in failure.

“Hey Kwasi...,” Patience stopped humming and spoke. Her voice sounded serious and nervous. “I realized that when we had to split up and investigate before you...you objected about teaming up with me...you seemed...unhappy and disappointed.”

I gave myself a mega face palm for that. I couldn’t believe I made that completely opposite impression. I wanted her to know how much I liked her not how much I hated her, which I don’t!

I stopped right in my tracks. “W-well, y-you see the-the reason I said all that-that stuff-stuff is w-well, um. How do I put this?” Trying to speak before you have anything in your head...yeah, bad idea. “S-see t-the r-reason is...”

“Look if you don’t like me anymore that’s fine, you don’t have to lie about it. But you’ll have to suck it up since were on the same team,” She said harshly, she turns her head away from me and continued walking.

I knew if I didn’t do something now I would never have a chance to get Patience to see how I truly feel. So without thinking I said “I don’t hate you!  Just the opposite! I-I really like you!” Patience stopped dead in her tracks. As soon as those words came out of my mouth I knew I was screwed.

“W-w-w-w-w-what did you just say?” Patience was actually stuttering. Her body was shaking, she was biting her lips, face bright red, and her eyes were all over the place.  I had no idea what was going on. “B-because I-I...”

“THERE THEY ARE!” The loud voice pierced through the moment like a knife. We turned around and saw the others.

“What took you guys so freaking long?” Varnit asked.

We looked at each other awkwardly then looked away.

“N-nothing,” Patience said!

“Y-yeah, just…talking,” I agreed.

The guys looked at us suspiciously.

“Whatever,” Jade said. “Let’s just get going.”

“Yeah let’s move,” Matthew said.

We all started marching to the ruins. But as we left Patience gave me one more smile.

*

We walked all the way to the far edge of the city. There was a large ancient door towered over us.

“So this is the ruins’ entrance?” I asked.

“Yup, shall we?” Varnit walked right for the door. She put her hand on it. We all waited in suspense as she stood there with her hand on the door. “…What? Are you guys goanna a girl do this for you?”

“Don’t abuse your gender like that!” Eric exclaimed.

After a short argument later Matthew, Eric and I were putting all of our strength and trying to push the door open. It took a lot of strength but we managed to open the door enough for us to fit through. As soon as the door opened a large burst of flame came from within the ruins. The girls managed to just barely escape. As soon as I saw the flames a sharp and painful headache came over me. I suddenly heard a voice.

You’re still okay…

I didn’t know where the voice came from but it was gone. I stood there confused as the fire dispersed.

“Fire in the hole much?” Jade said aggravated. We walked closer to the door with precaution.

“Where do you think that fire came from?” Matt asked.

“Don’t know. Somewhere hot maybe,” Eric answered.

“Either way we better be careful. Someone is defiantly trying to kill us,” Varnit said. She took lead and entered the entrance cautiously. “Now they know we’re here, so conserve as much energy as possible.”

“Don’t worry Varn. It’s not like we have to climb a humongous mountain right?” Eric reassured.

*

“YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FREAKING KIDDING ME!!!” Eric wailed; because just as he wished there stood an enormous mountain towering us as we exited the corridor of the ruin’s entrance.

SMACK!! Eric was slammed onto the floor in less than two seconds.

“YOU IDIOT” Jade yelled!!!

“Why are you hitting me” Eric asked as he grabbed his head in pain?!

“Cause you jinxed us!” Matt answered.

“B-but!” Eric begged.

“No buts! You are forbidden to talk for the next 6 hours!” Varnit ordered.

“BUT - !”

“6 HOURS!” Varnit repeated.

Eric frowned and dropped his down in shame.

“There is no sense in dragging this on any further. We might as well just climb it.” I suggested.

“Yeah, guess you’re right.” Varn agreed. “Alright let’s move.”

We all started to climb the mountain. As Spirit Hunters we were trained to climb mountains of this magnitude. But those times were just simulations the real thing a dangerous and tiring.

“Are we there yet?” Eric asked.

“6 Hours Eric! 6 Hours! Don’t you dare test my patience” Varn warned! “Oh! No offence, Patience.”

“None taken” Patience said happily. She looked at me for a quick sec before turning away. Reminding me that she still remembers what I said.

“So do you think the entrance is at the top Kwasi?” Matt asked.

I snapped out of my thought and answered Matt. “Most likely, it seems the best place to put the real entrance into a city.”

“If so why don’t you just move us to the top Matt?” Jade asked. “Or why don’t you just fly Patience.”

“Cause I can’t control the mountain for some reason. I can’t feel a lot of geographical energy coming off this mountain. And the amount I do feel is not enough to move us to the top.”

“And my wings aren’t fully healed yet.” Patience explained. “Hey! What about you Jade?”

“What about me?”

“Why don’t you just teleport us there.”

“…’Cause I can’t.”

“What was that?” I taunted.

“Look! I can’t teleport us there unless I know where we are going. But I have no idea what the place looks like. So I can’t alright!”

“Just want you stop blaming others for stuff you can’t do either.”

“Shut up!” Varn yelled.

“Sorry. But you don’t have to yell.” Jade said.

“No. Look.” Varn pointed to the sky above us and pointed directly at a small dot in the sky.

I stared closely at the small dot. I watched carefully as I heard a small buzzing sound. As seconds gone by the small sound became louder and louder and the dot grew bigger and bigger and suddenly out of now where we were swarmed with weird white flying creatures. . The creatures were like the same white creatures from before but these ones of metallic like wings and weapons directly attached to their skins. They were about the size of a normal human. Their faces were pretty close to human but their faces were covered with some kind of symbol. The symbol had 3 pointed edges like a crown and its lower half was shaped like a heart but upside down. I have never seen a symbol like that one before.

The creatures swarmed around us and stopped. There were so many of them that it actually blocked out the sun. I hanged on the mountain motionless, waiting for them to make a move and oh did, they ever! One of the creatures skin started to rip apart like a mouth and it let out the loudest screech ever. That screech created a chain reaction of screeches. One of the creatures aimed its weapon and fired. The blast just missed me.

“This is going to get worse before it gets better.” I said.

That was an understatement. Multiple blasts from all angles directly attacked us. We were trying to do all we could to avoid them but this many attacks plus hanging on the side of a mountain made it kind of difficult.

“Stone Dome!” Matt clapped his hands and the mountain started to form a dome around us.

“Nice thinking Matt.” Varn complemented.

“Don’t be too grateful yet! I can’t hold this with this many attacking.”

“I got a plan” Varn said. “On three let down the shield Matt, then all of you go into attack mode.”

“But what about defense” Patience asked?

“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of that.” Varn explained. “Okay. 1. 2. 3!”

Matt let down the shield and the creatures attacks came right us.

“Demon Ice: Crystal Reflecting Mirrors!”

A sphere of ice came over us and every attack bounced off the ice like a ping pong.

“What are you guys waiting for?! Attack” Varn ordered!

I fired my Lightning Saber directly at the creatures. My attacked phased through the ice and shocked the creatures.

“Sweetness” I yelled!

“My turn” Jade said, she fired her Star Flash and whipped out more of them!

Eric used his Black Saber Technique and sent a blast of black energy at the creatures.

“Take this!” Patience used her Shining Light to send an energy wave.

“Die!” Matt used his Stone Spear Technique to form rock spikes from the mountain that impaled half of the remaining creatures.

“Nice shot Matt!” I cheered. “Now it’s my turn, Thundara!”

The last of the creatures went up in flames descended to the ground like a flaming bullet.

“That should be it.” Varn said as she let down her shield.

Not quite Hunters” Said a dark screeching voice! We all quickly looked up but there was no one there. “Over here!

We turn around and saw a human with arms of a bat’s wing, it too had its eyes covered but its mouth was large and had carnivores teeth. The creature took a large breath and let out an excruciating loud screech. The screech made my eyes bleed, I tried as hard as I could to hold on but my body wouldn’t allow it. My brain ceased to function and my arm lost all energy and I started to fall. I could barely move to save myself, but as I looked to my side my friends were in the same situation. I tried to move but to no avail. I looked emptily as the ground came closer and closer and consciousness slowly fading. Then SLAM! I slammed on something hard. I assumed it was the ground but then I realized if I could assume that it would mean that I wasn’t dead. I opened my eyes and looked around. I was lying on top of a random platform that sprouted from the ground. The platform was softer than rock but strong enough to keep me from falling. I looked up as my friends came crashing down one by one onto the platform, everyone except Matt.

“You guys okay?!” I yelled as I ran towards them. I kneeled down and gave Eric a nudge. “Come on EmoHog. Wake up.”

I gave Eric a couple more shakes getting him to wake up. “Don’t call me that.”

We woke up the others and I explained what happened.

“And Matt” Patience asked?

“Haven’t seen him” I answered.

“You don’t think that he” Jade looked subtly to the ground?

We all fell silent. It was very possible. I usually would have said that he wasn’t but Matt. Matt was hit pretty bad and when it comes to sound based attacks Matt is quite sensitive. It was very possible.

“He-” I started to say but a sounds of footsteps came from the other side the platform and drawing closer.

“You thinks it’s those creatures” Patience asked?

“Maybe. Be on guard” Varnit answered.

As the footsteps came closer and closer our body became more and more anxious. But with that anxiousness was fear. We faced many Henkeis before but those white creatures were much more different. The footsteps were less than a 2 meters away now. And my body just couldn’t wait I jumped towards the sounds of the foot steps to get the jump on the creature. I attacked with my Thunder Wing but the attacks was grabbed. I struggled to break my hand free but the creatures grip was too strong.

“What the-? What are you doing Kwasi?” The voice was familiar, I focus on the figures face and realized that it was Matthew!

“ZOMG MATT!” My Thunder Wing dissipated and I took a sigh of relief.

“Kwasi!” Varnit called. She and the other came running towards me. As they came closer they saw a familiar face with me. “Matthew?!”

“Hey guys. You seem more than happy to see me.” Matt said nonchalantly.

“Well of course! We thought you were dead!” Jade exclaimed.

“Dead? Why would guys think that?”

“’Cause you weren’t there when we woke up from our little sky diving trip.”

“Oh!”

“OH! Is right! So where were you?”

“Where do you think. The end of this platform that I made while we falling.” Matt explained. “I mean who else do you think made this platform?”

We all face palmed at once. Of course Matthew was alive. If he wasn’t there wouldn’t have been a platform for us.

“Man sometimes you guys are really stupid.” Matt sighed and shook his head is disappointment. “Well anyways I found something interesting on the other side of the mountain.”

We followed Matt to the other side of the mountain where platform ended. There all we saw was the face of the mountain.

“So what? You found more rocks?” I asked.

“That’s what I thought but if you just do this” Matt put his hand over the wall and we all did the same and something unexpected happened.

“Air” I said.

“Not just any air. Hot air” Varnit analyzed.

“But wouldn’t that mean that there is warm air in there?” Patience asked.

“Like a volcano?” I asked.

“More like a heater.” Varnit corrected.

“That’s not all.” Matt amazed us even more as he put his hand through the wall.

“Whoa” Eric said. Varnit gave him a sharp glare. Eric took that as a reminder that he can’t talk.

“Hologram” I asked?

“Yep” Matt answered.

“Did you check what was on the inside” Varnit asked?

“Not fully but kinda looks like a base” Matt answered.

“Okay then” Varnit said. “We’ll trek into this base in this order: Matt, Jade, Eric, Me, Patience and Kwasi. Got it?”

“Got it” We all responded.

One by one we all slowly entered the weird mountain base. We walked down the long corridor for what felt like forever. Until we came to a fork in the road.

“Three paths” Varnit observed.

“6 of us” Jade stated. “You suggest we split up?”

“Yeah, teams of 2” Varnit said.

“Alright then” I said. “Matt and I will head this way - .”

“Wait” Patience exclaimed!

“What” Jade asked?

“Don’t you think that this is a little too easy. I mean we were attacked like prey about a half hour ago. And now we basically walk into a some secret base. It seems far to easy.” Patience’s explanation made a lot of sense. “Attacked one minute and welcomed in the next. Plus the way those creatures attacked were organized and patterned. Like a battle routine or pattern.”

“You notice that” Jade asked?!

“Didn’t you?”

“No!”

“Well either way Patience is right” Varnit said. “So what do we suggest we do, group together?”

“No. I still think splitting up would be the  best but I think we should go in different teams.”

“Different teams? Why” Matt asked?

“To throw our enemies off. It’s clear now that they are expecting us and I think it’s safe to assume that they know how we fight too. So if we go in different teams we can throw them off.”

“Good idea” Varnit encouraged. “Alright, here are the new teams. Jade and Eric, Matt and me, and Kwasi and Patience.”

“AGAIN?!” I exclaimed. I quickly realized that was an out loud thought. I looked at Patience but she turned away in anger.

“Got a problem” Varnit gave me her look and I shook my head no like crazy. “Good. Let’s go Matt.”

Varnit and Matt ran down the middle path. Jade and Eric followed, running down the right path.

I sighed and looked at Patience. “Shall we?” No response. I sighed and we started to walk down the path. But as we took our step the floor below us collapsed and we began plummeting to the ground...again.
