Alex's love confession..

"

The clear night sky and shining stars hung beyond the vast galaxy. The breeze was gentle yet unnoticeable-the perfect night for a love confession. A lamp post with a landscape garden lied beside a bench. The roses and sweet smell of Burberry floated about. A young boy dressed up in a neatly ironed polo shirt and formal pants stood vertically and had a face full of confidence.

“This is it...my first love confession...” He took a deep breath and held it for a few seconds and let it go. Folding his hands, he closed his eyes wishing that everything would go perfect-the girl of his dreams would say yes, the sky becomes starlit and beautiful, and that tomorrow morning he will be holding the her hand. He took another deep breathe and slowly opened his eyes. A figure was in front of him wearing a trench coat and high heels. He unfolded his hands and saw her-his dream girl.

“H-hello, Alex,” the girl spoke with a slight crack. Her face glowed from the lamp post’s brightness. Alex couldn’t believe that she came.

“Jessica, I have to tell you something really important,” Alex said. He took a last deep breathe and went straight forward. The roses hidden in his back appeared into his hands and held them in Jessica’s face. Her eyes lit up and her mouth became a O.

“A-Alex...?” Jessica could not croak out another world. Alex already had beads of sweat forming behind his neck.

“I-I’ve liked you for a long time and I would like you to be my girlfriend,” he spoke in one breathe. His hopes were as high as heavens but his face was looking down. Jessica took two steps back and alternating looked at the roses and then at Alex. As Alex lifted his head to look at Jessica, her face was only in a bank. An unidentifiable expression was written across her face. Alex didn’t know how to react to her reaction.

“Alex...I know you have felt those feeling for me,” Jessica began, “but I can’t date you...” Alex eyes widened. He was astonished yet curious why she couldn't.

“Why not, Jessica?,” Alex retorted. Jessica began to rub her arm vigorously. Now her expression was filled with shame.

“I know we’ve been friends for a while, but we kinda drifted here and there. We’re in completely separate worlds. You being with me is...complicated.” Alex, completely heart-broken dropped his roses without a blink. He understood what she meant. Her popularity with all the students in the school was compared to his nerdy self. She was always getting asked out by the upperclassmen and went to parties on weekends while he stayed at home watching Smallville re-runs on Sunday nights.

“So your saying just because your very popular means that your too good for me?” Alex’s expression became the face of a betrayed man. Sadness was filled in his eyes while his mouth expression was a grimace. Jessica took another step back.

“I have a reputation to keep up and I’m not going to ruin it now,” Jessica said with discontentment. Alex knew it. A stake drove through his heart sharply. Jessica reached out her hand to console him but drew back. “I’m very sorry Alex...I really am.” A last look at Jessica made Alex’s heart spill. Alex fell back onto the bench beside the light post. He picked up the roses of shame. A tear escaped his eyes. One after another came dripping out. He threw his rose bouquet into a bush and walked home loveless.
