Remembering You

Remembering You

A Poem by Kat Collins
"

My dear friend, mentor, writer, encourager, and passionate creator passed away in January 2010 - the world lost someone special that day and a silent space in time will always be.

"

Time passes all too quickly,

As your smile achingly fades from my memory.

I breathe into my creations and think of you,

Longing to hear your whispered words,

Encouragement, love, demanding and passionate.

Never give up, always do what you love,

You reminded me so many times.

I took for granted that you would be with me always,

My cheerleader at my back, pushing me forward.

The phone call crushed my world

My heart shattered from the loss of you.

I broke knowing you were there no more.

Your wife and children, fatherless -

Your father and mother, childless -

Your sister without her brother -

Your friend without her backbone.

The world tilted on its axis for a brief moment in time,

Spilling the rivers flowing from our eyes,

Watering the earth with our grief.

Time has passed, but the void still lingers,

I still turn to hear your voice,

And realize it is only in my mind,

A remembrance of you.

Many tributes are cloy and overly sentimental, but not this one. This is real and honest. Straight from the heart, but structured by the brain, then overlaid by the heart again. A perfect tribute to a man who seems to have been everything you say. We all loose people in our lives, but few of us can write of their loss as well as this. Many thanks for posting this. As a poem 100. As a tribute...you know

It's a lovely, heartfelt tribute, and your feelings come through. In light of such loss, I always find my words insufficient.

I'm not fond of your opening line but your second line is solidly written. There is a breathy feel to this as you describe the process and the grieving. A tribute to a friend.

This is a beautiful emotional sentiment to your friend and mentor. Saying goodbye can be so painful. You need to carry the special memories in your heart so you can recall when you need to remember him. I am sorry for your loss.

That is really a touching dedication.... It is too easy to not fully appreciate someone when they are right in front of us. He lives on in the wisdom and encouragement he passed on to you.

I wish I could have known him personally... a man to walk paths with.

I am sorry for ALL our loss.

Take care Kat,
"Blessed Be"
Chris
