Tough As NailsA Poem by Kate NapoliThey all knew it. When her heels hit, Nails clacked, They knew it. Perhaps they had always, Perhaps they had never, Not known. Her. She hid in their shadows Soul of cement Will of iron She built them up and Tore them down. They heard her and ran, Some toward, some away And for them it made All the difference She didn’t fear them. They didn’t know her. An arrangement based in blood And signed in souls. She could change their lives in half A thought And they barely remembered her At all. © 2016 Kate Napoli |
