Dare to look

Could I dare to look at him?

Why not, no one will condemn.

In our world we are never alone.

I turn around and look in the

dead eye of a security camera.

Someone is behind it,

looking at me now.

What does he think about me,

sipping his third coffee

from the start of the shift.

Still struggle when see myself

on the security monitor in

little shops.

Try to straighten the clothes

as arranging hair by the shadow on the ground.

I don’t like to be alone

at the empty station at this

time of the morning.

Later will be people

but now there are only I

and him who looks at me

standing alone on the platform.

He thinks I am crazy.

He is too old to my madness.

He is not lonely and

think of me as a lost girl

in too big for me city.

If he thinks of me at least

for moment.

We are together till

metro train will open doors

to absorb me with others

hoping that day will

bring the changes we are waiting for.

Such an interesting moment you describe. :) I love how you worded it and shared the thoughts in her head.
She knows he's there and he sees her. This situation is a strange intertwining of awkward and connected. In this strange new world this will be what's normal, more and more.

Kate,
Maybe you are just a petal on a wet, black bough...

In a Station of the Metro
BY EZRA POUND

The apparition of these faces in the crowd:
Petals on a wet, black bough.

But what I love about your poem is the way you put the speaker in the center looking out, finding their place, finding themselves, but from the point of view of a judge who must needs evaluate it all...

This is a wonderful write, I like the flow of this piece.
Big city life is fine for some, I would be all lost.
This is well written.

A wandering prose poem that takes the writer through a time and place where two minds, perhaps two hearts - look, see, notice the light and shadows of each other.. and, wonder when. It happens..

'Later will be people
but now there are only I
and him who looks at me
standing alone on the platform.

From that point you put up thoughts that perhaps thrust negatives from you of that special him - whether intended as armour or an attempt to stay calm! Such a fine - and unusual, poem. Thank you so much for sharing. Kate AKS.

(Also, thank you for the font size and all, small lettering can make for treble attempts to read when light is dull. )
