Never Quite

Never Quite

A Poem by A Glow in the Pit of My Soul

I was at my second wake in two weeks,
dressed all in black,
wearing lipstick and looking sad,
(just like any other day) --
when a woman came up to me
with gold buttons on her jacket
and she asked,

“Are you still a poet?
Do you still write?”

with a wistful look in her eye.

And I couldn't quite
word my response properly,

“Yes, I am, but not... not right now”

Just like every time I try
to put my thoughts on paper, I can
never quite
get the words
to
sound
right.

A clever and an emotive piece. I can relate to. I like how you write, the structure of your poem is beautiful

Thank you so much ♡ it's nice to get feedback on the structure too!
poet was kind of a dirtyword when i was in school, so i was always afraid to admit to real live folks that i was a poet in the beginning . . . i have noticed now that poets are kinda cool, the rock stars of the modern world

and why shouldn't they be?

just maybe not right now . . .

I was actually sort of shocked she called me a poet. I rarely even call myself a writer... "I write".. read more
