Elysium

Elysium

A Poem by KeeD

Almost felt like a different time
a trip down memory lane
Where music set the ambiance
couples danced and angels sung

You could feel the beat of the box drum
the vibrations followed out to the compound
It was a sweeter time
where smiles weren't strange phenomena

As the years passed
and time grew bolder
the flame that kept the parties alive
grew dimmer and suddenly disappeared

Everyone in their hustle and bustle
life caught up a little too fast
gone were the good old days
where visiting family didn't come last

Then came that heartbreaking day
when sweet Auntie Nellie passed away
But through the overwhelming sadness
She brought a reunion due for years

All the cousins gathered
to pay their respects
what she was able to do that day
none of us would ever expect

She brought life back to Elysium
as though the party never stopped
it felt like a portal through time
where life's hassles were put on hold for that night

The good ol' jokes and sing song sessions
the children playing both big and small
Although she died her soul resides
Through Elysium as she once again reminded us how to smile

Author's Note

KeeD
Elysium is my late grandmothers sisters house who recently passed away. Growing up as a kid I really learned the importance of family and how much fun it is to be a part of a big family with music and passion for life's amazing qualities offered.
