refraction

A Poem by Kees Kapteyn

You're wondering what I mean

When I say that you are beautiful

I say this to give you this knowledge

Affect what I feel upon you

Yet it becomes lost in the empty air

I look for lofty concepts in you

But you look at me with query in your eyes

Light bends and misses its mark

What I am grasping for

Is belief

All I have is faith

You illuminate meaning in me,

So much meaning

And this meaning is a picture in my mind

Superimposed upon the sight of you

I colour you in bright tints and hues,

Make you deeper and richer

And present this image to you

I try to break this vacuous space between us

Very well written poem. As a girl I know what you're saying about "You're wondering what I mean
When I say that you are beautiful". When someone says that to me, my first question is, "what do you want from me?"

Great poem!!!!
