Knox (R.I.P)

Knox (R.I.P)

A Poem by Keith
"

A champion breeder and a wonderful pet lost to a tiger snake bite.

"

There was no need to sight,

His official pedigree.

He had a regal manner,

You would  have to agree.

Something special, aloof and proud,

Or maybe the way he stood.

He had a commanding presence,

As we expect a Royal should.

He only shared his affection,

With just a privileged few.

Reserved and shy with others,

This princely Staffie Blue.

Now those who shared his  affection,

His devotion and loyalty,

Now sadly mourn the loss,

Of this member of royalty.

----------------------------------

But all is not lost!

For the line was not broken.

Hopes are alive,

Though it dare not be spoken.

Awaiting a litter,

Yet to choose the best.

Will a princely pup,

Stand out from the rest?

I guess all is not lost in the lines...and with death there is a rebirth...may he enjoy his time at Rainbow Bridge...I see you reflect much in your poetry of love ones...

You are welcome...your write with simplicity and yet give much to the reader...
some animals truly are nobility aren't they? i have to share a secret here..i have no love for snakes, and although i respect the order of things and don't wish death or cruelty on any living thing...when i am watching a tv show about snakes and them biting people and pets i am thinking "don't try to capture it, kill it!"...i know they are greatly beneficial to the natural order..and the whole scheme of things, but i find them utterly offensive....this is a terrific write and a wonderful homage to what seems like it was a beloved and highly prized pet. well penned.

Thanks Helen, just saw your note on the typo. DOH!
Keith, I find this very pleasing. I am not one to stick to a rigid form (most of the time) I do like my rhymes (some of the time) Mostly, I just read aloud to see how it flows off my tongue. Then I read again to see if it makes me feel anything. Feeling something, taking meaning is the most important to me. This made me think of my furry babies. They are not Royalty, but they are everything to me! Angi~ PS did the pups come?

Wow, a brilliant write on a canine royalty. I found it very touching (had a golden retriever for 14 years) and affectionately moving tribute to your dog written in a light but sad manner. Engaging, creative, with excellent substance, and totally wonderful theme. You do write well and I enjoyed reading this so much.

Thank you again Cynthia.
So for one who's just venturing in to poetry you are pretty amazing. I remember my first poems when I was a teen - eesh. I still have them and at the time I thought they were all that...(nope) Sorry to hear of your loss, I'm a dog person at heart and have lost my share over the years. Its always difficult but to have the pet taken by illness or injury - that makes it worse, I think

To lose a pet is very sad....our first dog we had for thirteen years..bravest, kindest, and intelligent....I live in Nova Scotia, Canada so thank God we do not have to worry about snake bites....you asked for hints on writing poetry...there is so many different styles but I always think it is a personal thing....poetry should have a smooth flow like pouring liquid from a glass,,,you have done a pretty good job here with this peice.
