The Garden

The Garden

A Poem by Kelley Quinn

I hope rain falls on you

I hope thunder shakes your stem

and mud splatters on your petals

I hope weeds weave along your veins

I hope the earth erodes your roots

Because your petals are pink, even

if they’re wilting

your soil swells beneath you

your stem is sturdy and mossy green --

you are strong

your roots reach far and deep,

tangled in the tendrils of

the other flowers

in this garden

I hope the rain falls beautifully

and you wilt beneath its weight

and from these things you’ll grow

I hope

This soil is healthy

This sun is warm

This garden is yours
