![]() Can you hurt me now?A Poem by Kelley QuinnWhen you said "I promise I won’t hurt you" Were you talking to me, or yourself? You went back on your word and Now take a look at me. Satisfied with your work? I stumble and murmur, Rock back and forth, calling out your name, Telling myself, "It’s not true. It’s not true". You apologize, and for what, Not letting me know earlier? Or you’re sorry that you had to put up with me? What happened to whispered I love you’s And standing in the rain, sharing timid kisses. What happened to "You’re driving me crazy!" And I’ll never let you go. Was it me, Or you? You leave me to shrivel on the floor, Crippled by those words you spoke to me. I can’t see through the water vision you’ve given me. I can’t breathe right and everything seems to be spinning. You think I’m overreacting? I’ve never had this kind of experience before. You were the last person I expected, The last person I wanted to say goodbye to. You tell me that I did nothing wrong, But then why are you leaving? Something changed, And it wasn’t you. You think I’m okay? You think that you’re getting the rough end? Have you seen my face lately? Have you seen the puffed skin The raw face, The red eyes? You say that now it is time to self destruct, But this is no harm to you. I heard it, in your voice. I heard it, when you said that you were sorry. Don’t you dare tell me lies. Remember "I would never lie to you"? Try repeating those words, And then tell me that you’re sorry. I’m going mad. I can’t think straight. And you expect me to go on like a normal person? You were the one that helped me learn how to smile again. Thank you for everything. And thank you, for taking it all away. © 2011 Kelley QuinnReviews
