Lady Nynes

Lady Nynes

A Poem by Ken e Bujold
"

"Today's a day for whimsy, after yesterdays heavy lifting"

"

She buried seven husbands before her eighth
Said 'enough' and sent her and the rosaries
Packing, vowing “there'll be no clueless ninth.”
Alas, he died before the spring turned winter free.

Unmoved, vindicated, she sent her milking-maid
As proxy: deeming it fair, “the old ox went
To pasture accompanied.” After all, he'd paid,
Perhaps a little dearly, his summer's rent.

A year of mourning passed, in penitence,
Touring the continent, 'sans des soeurs.'
A proper widow, prim and veiled, on ice--
“One does what one must, and the heart endures.”

Before home again, fawned and feted, all
The diaphanous recriminations
Laid to rest, she shed her widow's shawl
And gaily wed Sir Dudley, Duke of Nynes.

Your whimsy has me smiling. Your widow clearly has her eyes fixed firmly on the cash. However, I can't help thinking the blokes she wed, must have had their brains in their balls :))

Ah, the ninth victim.
love 'em and dump 'em
she puts them out with the trash...
and she cannot wait until the mourning passes, because her mourning
is as valid as two headed coin.

to my eye more like love and bury them, she's a bit more ruthless this Lady of Nynes
I am not in the least bit ashamed to admit sir .. your widow sounds just like someone I once knew .. I'm just wonderin whether the corners of my mouth will lower themselves spontaneously as the day progresses, or whether I need resort to the self administration of Botox .. elsewise the missus will think I've bin lookin at the norty books again ......................
