Someone

Someone

A Poem by Mackenzie Knitter
"

This is me taking the advice people have told me after graduation and creating an actual sense of empowerment that the people of this generation can utilize.

"
Be something.
Be someone.
Change the world.
Change yourself.
Do your best.
Do better.
Leave your mark.
Don't leave a scar.
Be successful.
Don't be anything less.
Be unique.
Be professional.
Contradicting words, cancelling each other out in order to fit into the category 'supportive'.
A dash of false encouragement, to build up a sense of empowerment,
Followed by a comment to shave off individuality, disable the mind.
There's no room for error, this small window starves creativity.
No more.
I will change the world,
By being myself and myself alone.
I will do my best,
By always pushing the boundaries.
I will leave my mark,
By embracing my scars.
I will be successful,
Because I am not afraid to fail.
I am unique,
I'm an individual, not a robot.
I am something.
I am someone.
