this earth and i

this earth and i

A Poem by Kevin Reader

12.15.2008 (1) [western iowa]

this earth and I have secrets
secrets that I tell you now

I laid upon her matted sod
‘twas soft and sweet and fallow

I whisper to her thoughts of mine
thoughts that I do think right now

her fruit is sweet and bitter
and warming to my touch tender

I will always see her bare
and rest my breast on hers

as I lay upon her matted sod
she whispers back, where you go I’ll follow
