You Told Her

You Told Her

A Poem by Frito
"

Society is telling us how to be but everyone is beautiful in their own way and does not need to change for anyone

"

You told her a skirt will make her a s**t
But not enough skin for the boys won’t cut

You told her her makeup is too much to see

But her natural face is just as ugly

You told her that her hair must be blonde

But “it’s too fake” is how everyone will respond

You told her to love anyone she feels will get her along

But anyone other than a guy is wrong

She couldn’t fit what you told her

But you prodded her on saying “try harder”

You called her names and told her she would never fit in

But were silent as the blade cut into her skin

She could be happy without changing herself

But now the empty bottles are lined on the shelf

Nobody would show that they had care

But the world was a lot better with her there

Society does have a way of dictating the way people should be. The subject of this poem was apparently driven to alcohol and mutilation because of it. It takes a brave soul to walk an independent path, but it can be done.
