Ode To Gaza

Ode To Gaza

A Poem by M.Kilani
"

This poem was written on the night of the Israeli attack on Gaza on Dec.2008 Publish in the book : Jordan Poetry: The Departure

"

City under siege … what have they done

Full of F16 is the sky …. They blocked the sun

Oh city over sea … what more can you handle

Still we stand and all we can we do is share a stupid candle

Bounded we are … dear city under sky

I screamed for your name … and from tear gas now I cry

Oh Gaza with words to ease your pain I try

Those without swords upon swords may die

Fight and don’t fall wait for another dawn

Fight and stand tall you shall take them down

Dear sons of Gaza for you I weep

If sleepless I was... now I cry to sleep

Run to the light at the end of this cave

Fill your earth with a grave next to a grave

Your freedom they may take

Sunlight your eyes may forsake

But never can they make you a slave

Blood and honor you have gave

Oh God your mercy we ask we beg and pray

May Gaza’s suffering end up today

And still we watch and still we cry

How much longer can we refuse and deny

Beautiful heartfelt piece. Very well written, good strong imagery and poetic tools. I also support freedom in Gaza, and have blooged about it considerably. Israhell is an apartheid government bent on total annihilation and needs to be stopped. You showed the human side of this terrible tragedy. Very well done!!

Represent! All we do is share stupid candles. When this rivalry is no more, people will truly start to realise How useless all of this is!

I love this. It perfectly blurs the line between triumph and tragedy, strength and fear, insurgence and apocalypse... it feels as if it has been spoken from a distant history, meant to warn us of an ever-nearing future. Great, great piece.

This is so sad, very emotional.

"Run to the light at the end of this cave
Fill your earth with a grave next to a grave
Your freedom they may take
Sunlight your eyes may forsake
But never can they make you a slave
Blood and honor you have gave"

-This is my favorite stanza. It has such a feel of rebellion and strength in it, very well done!

That was a rarely thoughtful, considerate write. My pieces concering the war in Palestine get the least reviews. Thats how comfortable most people feel sitting in the selfish dark, away from the truth. It's pitiful and unfair. Loved the rhymes and flow. Thank you for sharing this. Ameen to your last lines...

This moved me to tears....oh...I fear I cannot properly say...how You twist the pain into beautiful words...how I feel the senselessness of war...how moved I am..
